Etihad Airways business class

Business Studio, Business Suite and the A380 cabin differ by aircraft.

Etihad business class is branded the Business Studio — a 1-2-1 lie-flat seat with direct aisle access from every position on every widebody Etihad flies. Only the A350-1000 has a sliding privacy door. The A380, 777 and most 787s use a staggered layout instead, and the A321LR flies a 1-1 herringbone. Business Studio: one name, four genuinely different seats

Etihad markets a single business class brand across its widebody fleet, and that consistency is misleading. "Business Studio" describes the service, the fare and the cabin — it does not describe the seat, because Etihad is flying four distinct hard products under that one label in 2026.

The oldest is the staggered 1-2-1 seat on the A380, the 777-300ER, the 787-10 and the original 787-9 layout, where alternate rows face backwards. The second is a forward-facing reverse-herringbone version fitted to newer 787-9s. The third is the Collins Aerospace Elevation seat on the A350-1000, the only Etihad widebody with a door in business. The fourth is the narrowbody lie-flat cabin on the A321LR, introduced in 2025.

Separately, Etihad's older A320 and A321 aircraft carry ordinary 2-2 recliners on regional sectors with no lie-flat bed and no seatback screen. That cabin is still sold as business class. If you are buying a short Gulf or Indian Ocean sector, this is the difference between a bed and a wide armchair, and only the aircraft type on your flight number reveals which one you get.

Which Etihad aircraft carry which business seat

Aircraft are rotated between routes by season, by demand and by day of week, so treat this as the shape of the fleet rather than a promise about a given departure. Confirm the type against your own flight number and date before you pay.

Cabin counts and layout descriptions above come from published seat maps and specialist aviation reporting rather than an Etihad specification sheet, because Etihad does not publish a consolidated fleet seat table. The two 787-9 variants are the trap worth knowing: same aircraft type, same fare, and the difference between facing forwards for fourteen hours and facing the tail.

The seat: beds, doors and the direction you face

The single measurement that changes most between Etihad business seats is bed length, and it changes within the same cabin rather than between aircraft.

Read the first two rows together. On the staggered A380, 777 and 787 cabins, a rear-facing seat gives up close to five inches of bed compared with a forward-facing one in the same cabin, at the same price. Even rows face forwards, odd rows face backwards. That is the most valuable thing to know before you choose a seat on an Etihad business ticket, and it costs nothing to act on.

Dimensions here are drawn from consistent measurements in independent seat reviews. Etihad does not publish seat pitch or width for the Business Studio, and any site quoting a single fleet-wide figure is guessing.

The A380 upper deck and The Lobby

Etihad's A380 is the only aircraft in the fleet where business class is a full-deck experience rather than a cabin at the front. All premium cabins sit on the upper deck: The Residence and the First Apartments at the nose, then 70 Business Studios behind, with the entire main deck given to economy.

Between the two premium cabins sits The Lobby, a circular standing bar with a curved sofa, open to First and Business passengers through the cruise. It is a genuine social space rather than a self-service galley counter, staffed at the bar, and it is the reason many frequent flyers actively seek out the A380 on Etihad's network.

Simple Flying reported the A380 fleet running five routes in 2026: Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow at nineteen weekly, and daily service to Paris Charles de Gaulle, Singapore, Toronto and — from mid-June — Tokyo Narita, with peak days reaching seven A380 departures from Abu Dhabi. Etihad separately confirmed a Bangkok deployment later in the year. New York JFK, Sydney, Melbourne, Mumbai and Seoul lost their A380 service and have not had it restored, so do not assume an old route guide still applies.

Business fare brands: Value, Comfort and Deluxe

Etihad sells three branded business fares, and the brand rather than the cabin decides almost everything about what happens after you book. All three put you in the same seat.

Fare elementHow Etihad applies it
Brands availableBusiness Value, Business Comfort, Business Deluxe
Change service feeNo Global Service Fee on business bookings
Change inside 96hrsAdditional 10% fee on top of any change fee
Checked baggageRises with the brand; shown against your own booking
Seat selectionIncluded on Comfort and Deluxe
ChauffeurDeluxe on most markets; see the ground services section
RefundabilityValue is the most restricted, Deluxe the freest

The absence of Etihad's flat USD 30 Global Service Fee in business is worth noting, because it is charged per segment on economy bookings. It does not make changes free — a Business Value ticket can still carry a fare-brand change fee that a Business Deluxe ticket does not, plus any fare difference.

Etihad does not publish a single global checked-baggage number per business fare brand, and the figures circulating on comparison sites are not sourced from Etihad. The allowance shown against your own booking and route is the one that governs.

Baggage in Etihad business class

Two systems run in parallel, and which one applies is decided by where you fly rather than what you paid.

Baggage itemEtihad's published rule
Cabin bags, business2 bags, combined up to 12kg
Cabin bags, US flights1 bag up to 12kg
Cabin bag sizeMaximum 56 x 36 x 23cm per bag
Extra small bagUp to 5kg, maximum 23 x 39 x 19cm
Checked, US and Canada2 bags, up to 32kg each
Checked, other routesWeight concept, set by fare brand
Single bag weight cap32kg, on every route
Golf equipment1 set up to 15kg free, on top of your allowance

The North America split catches people out in both directions. A business passenger flying Abu Dhabi to Chicago gets two pieces at 32kg. The same passenger flying Abu Dhabi to Manila gets a total weight figure that can be spread across as many bags as they like, provided no single bag passes 32kg — and Etihad will not load a bag over 32kg at all, whatever your allowance says.

The golf concession is unusually generous and unusually specific: clubs, balls and one pair of shoes, one set, 15kg, carried in addition to your normal allowance rather than counted inside it.

On the ground: chauffeur, lounges and priority

Etihad's ground package is where business class separates from a discounted first-class-lite offering elsewhere, and where the fare brand matters most.

Ground serviceWhat applies in business
Priority check-inDedicated business counters
Fast-track securityOffered at Abu Dhabi and selected stations
Etihad Business LoungeYes, at Zayed International Terminal A
Partner loungesWhere Etihad has no lounge of its own
Terminal A spaBe Relax spa, chargeable in business, free in First
Etihad ChauffeurIncluded on eligible fares, not all business fares
Priority boardingYes, on Etihad-operated flights

The chauffeur is the benefit most often misunderstood. Inside the UAE, Etihad's chauffeur will collect from or deliver to addresses across the country, not just Abu Dhabi — including Dubai — on eligible tickets. Outside the UAE the service has historically been limited to The Residence and First. Etihad's trade communications reported an extension of the global chauffeur to Business Deluxe for bookings created on or after 26 February 2026, launching at nineteen stations with more to follow. Treat that as reported rather than guaranteed for your city, and confirm it against your own booking. A separate rule applies if you buy your way into business at the airport: an airport upgrade does not carry the chauffeur.

Onboard: dining, Wi-Fly and what Etihad charges for

Business Studio dining is served on demand rather than to a fixed trolley schedule on long sectors, with Armani/Casa tableware, a wine and Champagne list, and an Acqua di Parma amenity kit on long-haul flights.

Connectivity is where Etihad's business proposition has a visible gap, and it is worth pricing before you fly.

Wi-Fly packageEtihad's published pricing
Chat, under 7 hoursUSD 2.99, free for Etihad Guest members
Chat, over 7 hoursUSD 4.99, free for Etihad Guest members
Surf, under 7 hoursUSD 9.99, unlimited data
Surf, over 7 hoursUSD 19.99, unlimited data
Free Surf includedFirst cabin, and Platinum and above
Etihad Guest Gold25% discount on Surf

Note what is not on that list. Business class does not include complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi on Etihad — First does. Joining Etihad Guest before you fly is free and turns the Chat package, covering WhatsApp, Messenger and WeChat, into a no-cost inclusion, which is the single cheapest improvement available to a business class passenger on this airline.

The A321LR carries a newer Viasat system with 4K seatback screens, and its 17.3-inch business displays with Bluetooth pairing and wireless charging are, on paper, ahead of some of Etihad's widebody cabins.

Etihad Guest, upgrade bids and how to price a business ticket

Etihad Guest awards Guest Miles as a share of distance flown, weighted by fare brand and topped up by elite bonus, so Business Deluxe accrues materially faster than Business Value on the identical flight. Published percentages differ between third-party sources, so check Etihad's own miles calculator for your route rather than trusting a table — including this page.

Tier Miles run on a separate track and drive Silver, Gold, Platinum and the invitation-only Emerald. Etihad reduced qualification thresholds by 25% for the period running to 31 March 2027, applied automatically.

If you hold an economy ticket, Etihad's bid-for-upgrade tool takes offers until roughly four hours before departure, payable by card or Guest Miles, and only on flights Etihad both markets and operates. Winning a bid does not rewrite your fare conditions: baggage, change rules and accrual all stay at the fare you originally bought.

The honest advice on pricing is to compare Business Value against Business Comfort on the same flight rather than against a rival airline. The gap between the two brands is often smaller than the cost of one change, and Comfort adds seat selection and baggage. Airlaza quotes those brands side by side in writing, with the scheduled aircraft type named so you know whether you are buying a doored A350 suite or a rear-facing staggered seat. Frequently asked questions

What is Etihad business class called?

Etihad brands its widebody business class the Business Studio. The name covers the fare, the cabin and the service, but not the seat — four different hard products fly under it, from a 2016-generation staggered seat to the doored Collins Elevation suite on the A350-1000 and a 1-1 herringbone on the A321LR.

Which Etihad planes have a door in business class?

Only the Airbus A350-1000. Its 44 Business Studios use the Collins Aerospace Elevation seat in a reverse-herringbone layout with a sliding privacy door reported at 36 inches tall. Every other Etihad widebody business cabin — A380, 777-300ER, 787-9 and 787-10 — has a shell or divider, not a door.

Does Etihad business class have lie-flat beds?

On every widebody, yes. Staggered Business Studio seats convert to beds reported at 80.5 inches facing forward and 75.7 inches facing rearward. The A321LR gives a reported 78 inches. Etihad's older A320 and A321 aircraft on regional routes have 2-2 recliners with no bed at all.

What is the difference between Business Value, Comfort and Deluxe?

They are the same seat with different rules. Value is the most restricted on changes and refunds and carries the smallest baggage allowance. Comfort adds seat selection and a larger allowance. Deluxe is the freest to change, carries the most baggage and is the brand Etihad attaches its chauffeur benefit to on most markets.

How much baggage do you get in Etihad business class?

To and from the United States and Canada, two checked bags at up to 32kg each. Everywhere else Etihad uses a total weight figure set by your fare brand, splittable across bags with no single bag over 32kg. Cabin allowance is two bags totalling 12kg, plus a 5kg personal item.

Does Etihad business class include a chauffeur?

Not automatically. Inside the UAE, eligible tickets get door-to-door pickup anywhere in the country. Outside the UAE it has been a First and Residence benefit, with Etihad's trade communications reporting an extension to Business Deluxe for bookings made from 26 February 2026 at nineteen stations. Confirm against your own booking.

Is Wi-Fi free in Etihad business class?

Not the full package. Etihad's Chat plan is free for any Etihad Guest member, which covers WhatsApp, Messenger and WeChat. Unlimited Surf costs USD 9.99 on flights under seven hours and USD 19.99 above that, and is complimentary only in First and for Platinum members and above.

Does an Etihad business ticket include lounge access?

Yes. Business passengers use the Etihad Business Lounge at Zayed International Terminal A in Abu Dhabi, and partner lounges at airports where Etihad operates none of its own. The Be Relax spa inside the Abu Dhabi lounge is chargeable for business passengers and complimentary for First class passengers.

What is The Lobby on the Etihad A380?

The Lobby is a circular standing bar with a curved sofa on the A380 upper deck, sitting between the First Apartments and the 70 Business Studios and open to both cabins in the cruise. No other Etihad aircraft has it, which is why regular travellers deliberately route via A380 sectors.

Can you upgrade to Etihad business class?

Yes, through Etihad's bid-for-upgrade tool, which accepts offers until around four hours before departure and takes card payment or Guest Miles. It works only on flights Etihad both markets and operates. Your original fare conditions survive — baggage, change rules and mileage accrual stay as bought, and airport upgrades exclude the chauffeur.
