Until your specific aircraft is converted, FlyNet pricing still applies — so during 2026 and 2027 the honest answer to "is Lufthansa WiFi free?" is "on some aircraft".

Which Lufthansa aircraft have WiFi, and on what technology

Lufthansa has never run one connectivity system. Long-haul aircraft carried Panasonic Avionics Ku-band satellite service. Short and medium-haul Europe uses the European Aviation Network, an unusual hybrid built by Deutsche Telekom and Inmarsat that pairs an S-band satellite with a ground network of roughly 300 LTE masts, each with a range of over 80 km, beaming upwards to cruising altitude.
