Which Lufthansa aircraft actually have First Class

Most of Lufthansa's long-haul fleet has no First Class at all. The cabin exists on a sub-fleet, and which sub-fleet you get determines almost everything about the experience — an eight-seat 747-8 nose cabin and a three-seat Allegris suite cabin are different products sold under the same name.

Two consequences follow. First, the Allegris cabin has three seats, so First availability on those flights is structurally scarce — it sells out further ahead than an eight-seat cabin ever did. Second, an aircraft swap on a First Class booking can change the product entirely, not just the seat number.

Lufthansa First Class routes: the 2026 picture

"Lufthansa First Class Ziele" — destinations — is a moving list, because the cabin follows the aircraft and the aircraft follow the season. The stable structure is hub-based: 747-8 First flies out of Frankfurt, while the A380 and the Allegris A350 fly First out of Munich.

Allegris First is expanding rather than settling. The first scheduled Allegris A350 service with First Class flew Munich–Tokyo Haneda on 27 October 2025, and Lufthansa has announced Munich–Singapore from 26 October 2026. San Diego, San Francisco and Charlotte have also appeared in Allegris route announcements.

Check the operating aircraft for your exact date before you book. A route listed as First Class in winter may run Business-only in summer.

Allegris First Class: two Suites and one Suite Plus

Allegris is the biggest change to Lufthansa's premium cabins in a generation, and in First it went further than in any other cabin. The A350-900 First Class cabin has just three seats: two individual window suites, and a central Suite Plus designed to be sold to a couple travelling together or to a single passenger who wants the space.

The defining feature is enclosure. Each suite has floor-to-ceiling privacy walls and a sliding, lockable door — a genuinely private room rather than a shell with a high seat back. Lufthansa quotes seats close to a metre wide, individually heatable and coolable, with a personal wardrobe, wireless charging and a large entertainment screen. The Suite Plus combines two seats into one enclosed space, which no other Lufthansa cabin offers.

That combination — three seats, full doors, a two-person suite — is what makes Allegris First hard to book rather than merely expensive. Where an eight-seat cabin can absorb late demand, a three-seat cabin cannot. The older cabins: 747-8, A380 and the last A340-600s

The pre-Allegris First Class cabins are open seats rather than suites, and they remain the majority of Lufthansa's First Class capacity. On the Boeing 747-8, eight First Class seats sit in the nose of the main deck across three rows — the most recognisable Lufthansa First cabin, and the one most Frankfurt departures use. On the Airbus A380, eight seats sit in a 1-2-1 layout across two rows on the upper deck out of Munich.

Neither has a closing door. Privacy comes from spacing and low cabin density: eight passengers, with a crew ratio built around that number, and a level of table service that the newer suites have not made obsolete.

The A340-600 is the outlier. It also carries an eight-seat First cabin, but the type is expected to leave the fleet during 2026, and it is the least likely of the four to appear on a given booking. If you are choosing between the cabins deliberately rather than accidentally, the 747-8 nose remains the enthusiasts' pick and the A380 upper deck the quietest.

The First Class Terminal in Frankfurt

Frankfurt's First Class Terminal, open since 2005, is a separate building — not a lounge inside the main terminal. Passengers check in there, clear a passport control desk inside the building, and are then driven across the apron directly to the aircraft by a chauffeur rather than walking through the terminal.

Access requires a confirmed same-day First Class flight with Lufthansa, SWISS or Discover Airlines, or HON Circle membership. HON Circle members reach it on flights with a wider Lufthansa Group list, including Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Lufthansa City Airlines.

The apron transfer is the part people remember. For years the cars were Porsches under a long-running partnership; that contract expired at the end of 2024 and was not renewed, and Lufthansa has moved the service to a different supplier. The transfer itself continues — vehicle type varies with the number of passengers and the aircraft's stand, so a minivan is as likely as a sports saloon.

For a connecting passenger with a tight schedule, the FCT is less about luxury than about time: separate security, no terminal walk, and a car that leaves when your flight is ready.

First Class lounges in Munich, and who you can bring

Munich has no First Class Terminal, but it has two Lufthansa First Class Lounges in Terminal 2 — one in the main terminal and one in the satellite. Which you use depends on where your aircraft parks, and both serve the Munich First departures including the A380 and Allegris A350 routes.

The guest rule is the one worth planning around. Two guests is generous by industry standards, but the same-flight boarding pass requirement means a partner on a different departure cannot come in — a common and avoidable disappointment.

Baggage and the ground product

First Class carries Lufthansa's largest allowance, and it is a piece concept rather than a weight pool.

Three bags at 32 kg is a meaningful margin over Business, and it is the single most-used practical benefit of the cabin on relocation or long-stay trips.

On the ground beyond the lounges, First Class includes priority check-in, security and boarding at Lufthansa hubs, and a chauffeur transfer at Frankfurt. Outstation ground service varies with the airport and the handling agent — at a station where Lufthansa has one daily departure, expect a shared Star Alliance lounge rather than a dedicated First facility.

What cancelling a Lufthansa First Class ticket can cost

First Class is not automatically flexible, and 2026 provided an unusually clear demonstration. Effective 7 April 2026, on routes between Europe and parts of Asia-Pacific plus South Africa, Mauritius and the Seychelles, Lufthansa Group introduced cancellation fees on fares that had previously been sold as flexible.

After sustained pushback, Lufthansa Group reversed most of it. From 3 June 2026, Economy, Premium Economy and Business Flex tickets on the affected routes became fully refundable without charge again, with a further reduction to Basic Plus fares on 10 June 2026. First Class retained a refund fee, albeit a reduced one.

The lesson is not that Lufthansa behaved badly — it is that a fare named "Flex" carried a four-figure cancellation charge for roughly two months, and only the fare rules attached to the actual ticket said so.

What changes next: retrofits and retirements

The First Class fleet is mid-transition, and the direction is clear even where the dates are not. Lufthansa has flagged retrofit programmes for the Airbus A350-900 fleet from 2027 and for the Boeing 747-8 thereafter, which over time moves more of the First cabin toward the enclosed Allegris suite standard.

Pulling in the opposite direction, the A340-600 is expected to retire during 2026, removing an eight-seat First cabin from the fleet, and the A380 has a finite life. Replacing eight-seat cabins with three-seat suite cabins reduces total First Class seats even as the product improves.

For anyone booking ahead, that produces one practical rule: book the aircraft, not the route. A route that offers First Class today may offer it in a different cabin, or not at all, once the equipment changes.
