Qatar Airways manage booking

Change, refund and seat rights all follow the fare family your ticket was sold in.

Note

Airlaza is an independent IATA and ARC accredited agency, not Qatar Airways. Fares, fees and conditions are set by the airline and change without notice — the figures shown in your own booking are the ones that apply. Confirm at the airline's own site before you travel.

Qatar Airways Manage Booking — on qatarairways.com or the mobile app — retrieves your reservation with your surname plus a six-character booking reference, and lets you change flights, request a refund, pick seats, buy extra baggage, add meals and check in from 48 hours out. What it actually permits is set by your fare family, not the cabin. Talk it through with Airlaza: +1-888-890-4009, 24/7.

What Qatar Airways Manage Booking actually lets you do

Manage Booking is Qatar's self-service layer over a ticket that already exists. Within it you can change flight dates and routings, request a refund, select or change seats, buy additional baggage allowance, order a special meal, add your Privilege Club membership number so Avios and Qpoints post correctly, enter passport and advance passenger information, complete online check-in, and download or print a boarding pass.

What it cannot do is override the fare rules filed against your ticket. The same button appears for every passenger; the outcome differs. A Business Elite passenger sees a change proceed at zero penalty. A Business Lite passenger on the identical Qsuite seat sees a fee quoted before the fare difference is even calculated. The screen is the same. The rulebook underneath it is not.

Finding your booking: PNR, e-ticket number or Privilege Club

Qatar's retrieve-booking form takes a booking reference — the six-character alphanumeric code, letters A–Z and numbers, printed against "Booking reference" or "PNR" on your confirmation — together with the passenger surname exactly as ticketed.

The alternative is the e-ticket number. Qatar's instruction is to enter a single e-ticket number without any letters or special characters, so strip out spaces, hyphens and the airline prefix before pasting. Qatar Airways tickets are issued on the 157 airline ticketing plate, so a genuine QR e-ticket number begins 157.

The third route is logging into Privilege Club. Bookings made while signed in appear automatically under your account, which is also the only way Qatar surfaces Avios award redemptions and Avios upgrades for management. If the surname on the account and the surname on the ticket differ, the booking will not attach.

Changing flights by fare family — and what changed on 15 July 2025

Qatar launched named business fare families for tickets issued from 1 October 2021: Lite, Classic, Comfort and Elite. Those launch attributes are no longer current. A Qatar Airways trade portal notice covering sales from 15 July 2025 adjusted them — and applies the new structure to any existing ticket reissued on or after that date.

Business fare familyComplimentary changes as launched (Oct 2021)Change rule for sales from 15 July 2025Refund to original paymentPrivilege Club accrual
Business LiteNonePermitted for a feeFor a fee75% of miles flown
Business ClassicOnePermitted for a feeFor a fee125%
Business ComfortTwoOne complimentary change, then a feeFor a fee175%
Business EliteUnlimitedFull flexibility retainedComplimentary200%

Two practical consequences. First, a Comfort ticket bought in 2024 and reissued after 15 July 2025 does not keep its two free changes. Second, "complimentary change" never means free travel — the fare difference between the old and new flight is payable on every family, including Elite. Qatar has revised this structure twice already, and the tiers offered on a given route and point of sale may differ, so read the rules attached to your actual ticket.

Cancellation, refunds and ticket validity

Refunds are requested through Manage Booking on a Qatar-issued ticket. The refund route follows the same fare hierarchy as changes: Business Elite refunds to the original form of payment without penalty, while Lite, Classic and Comfort refund for a fee that Qatar prices by region and booking currency rather than as one global number.

Two Qatar-published limits matter more than most people realise. Refund validity is 12 months from the date of issue on a fully unused ticket, and 12 months from the first uplift date on a partially used one. Once the validity period expires the ticket is non-refundable, whatever the fare family said. Separately, failing to travel on a booked segment triggers a no-show charge under Qatar's conditions of carriage — waived where Qatar verifies the miss was its own fault.

If it is Qatar that cancels or materially changes the flight, your fare rules stop being the governing document:

Where the rule appliesEntitlementPublished figures
EU — Regulation 261/2004Choice of reimbursement, re-routing or a return flightReimbursement within 7 days; compensation €250 / €400 / €600 by distance band
UK — UK261, enforced by the CAASame structure as EU261Compensation £220 / £350 / £520 by distance band
US — DOT automatic refund rule, in force October 2024Automatic cash refund, including on non-refundable faresSignificant change = 3+ hours domestic, 6+ hours international, airport change, or downgrade of cabin. Refund within 7 business days (card) or 20 calendar days (other)

The downgrade clause is the one premium passengers should note: an involuntary drop from Business to Economy on a US-rule ticket obliges a refund of the fare difference.

Seat selection: which Qatar fares include it

Seat selection is where Qatar's unbundling bites hardest, because the seat map opens for everyone but the price does not.

Fare familyAdvance seat selection in Manage Booking
Economy LiteChargeable
Economy ClassicChargeable
Economy ConvenienceStandard seats included
Economy ComfortStandard seats included
Business LiteNot included — oneworld elite members exempt
Business ClassicNot included — oneworld elite members exempt
Business ComfortIncluded
Business EliteIncluded
Any fare, once online check-in opensStandard seats free; Preferred and Extra Legroom still chargeable

Extra Legroom seats sit at exit rows and bulkheads across the fleet, and on the upper deck of the A380. Qatar prices Preferred and Extra Legroom seats by route and seat type and quotes the figure inside Manage Booking, so there is no single published fee to plan against. If you are on Economy Classic or Business Lite and relaxed about where you sit, waiting for check-in costs nothing.

Qsuite, cabin options and upgrades

Every Qatar A350-1000 carries Qsuite, along with roughly forty of the 777-300ER fleet and most 777-200LRs — so a Business ticket on a 777 is not automatically a Qsuite ticket, and the seat map in Manage Booking is the fastest way to tell. Centre-pair suites with the divider lowered form the double bed; Quad configurations seat four. Qsuite Next Gen, announced at Farnborough 2024 and delayed with the Boeing 777-9, is now expected to debut on new A350-1000 deliveries.

Manage Booking offers two upgrade routes. Avios upgrades appear when your booking class is eligible, priced by route and cabin. Paid upgrade offers work as a bid: if accepted, Qatar charges the card between 48 and 4 hours before departure. The upgrade fee is non-refundable, non-changeable and non-transferable, applies only to the specific flight numbers named in the offer email — not the whole itinerary — and Avios and Qpoints still accrue at your original booking class, not the upgraded one.

Adding baggage, meals and special assistance

Every add-on in Manage Booking has its own deadline, and Qatar's are not all the same distance from departure.

TaskQatar's published window
Online check-in, most flights48 hours to 90 minutes before departure
Online check-in, flights to/from the United StatesOpens 24 hours before departure
Special meal requestAt least 24 hours before departure
Kosher meal requestAt least 48 hours before departure
MEDIF medical clearance formAt least 48 hours before departure
Extra baggage online, weight-concept routesUp to 6 hours before scheduled departure
Award flight or Avios upgrade change/cancellationUp to 3 hours before departure
Successful paid upgrade bid chargedBetween 48 and 4 hours before departure
Stopover eligibilityDoha transit of 12 to 96 hours

Extra baggage bought online is cheaper than the airport counter rate, which is the single easiest saving in the whole panel. Special meals cover vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, diabetic, low-salt, child and religious options; the Baby Meal is carried as standard and does not need requesting. Wheelchair assistance is added in Manage Booking, but a WCHC request tied to a recent temporary disability needs a medical report, and Qatar Airways Medical Centre is the final authority on fitness to fly.

Agent-issued tickets: what Qatar will and won't service

If a travel agency issued your ticket, the electronic document sits under that agency's ticketing authority. Qatar's own guidance is to go back to your point of purchase for refunds and changes, because the agent controls the payment transaction and holds the reissue rights.

In practice the split is clean. Qatar will still let you retrieve the booking, complete online check-in, choose or buy seats, add baggage, request a meal, enter passport data and download a boarding pass. Qatar will not reissue the ticket or process the refund — those go back to the issuing agent, who reissues through the same GDS the ticket was created in.

This is exactly where Airlaza earns its place. Where Airlaza issued the ticket, we hold the reissue rights and deal with Qatar directly on your behalf: we quote the change fee and fare difference in writing before anything is touched, and we handle the refund filing. One call, not a queue.

Stopover, multi-city and Avios award bookings

Three booking types behave differently from a straightforward return.

Stopover. Qatar's Doha stopover is not sold inside Manage Booking. It is booked through the Discover Qatar portal using your ticket confirmation number, and requires a Doha transit of 12 to 96 hours on a confirmed Qatar Airways, codeshare or oneworld ticket. Four- and five-star hotel rates start from around USD 14 per person per night at four-star level on a twin-share basis, rising by property and season.

Award and Avios upgrade bookings. These must be managed while logged into Privilege Club, and Qatar publishes fixed fees:

When you change or cancel an award flight or Avios upgradeFee per passengerAvios returned
More than 24 hours before departureUSD 25 — waived for a Platinum or Gold main member travelling; USD 25 for Silver, Burgundy, and family or guests of Platinum and GoldYes
Between 3 and 24 hours before departureUSD 100Yes
Less than 3 hours before departureChange or cancellation not permittedNo — eligible taxes refunded, Avios not credited back

Multi-city. Long or mixed-carrier itineraries frequently fail to reprice cleanly in a self-service tool. Where a change touches a partner-operated or codeshare sector, expect to need a human — Qatar's or ours.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my Qatar Airways flight online?

Yes, if Qatar Airways issued the ticket. Open Manage Booking on qatarairways.com or the app, retrieve the booking with your surname and six-character reference, and select the flight. Whether the change is free, chargeable or blocked is set by your fare family, and any fare difference is payable on top.

Which Qatar Airways fare lets me change for free?

Business Elite retains full change flexibility. For sales from 15 July 2025, Qatar adjusted the rest: Business Comfort now gives one complimentary change and charges after that, while Business Lite and Business Classic permit changes for a fee. Fare differences still apply on every fare family, Elite included.

Do I get free seat selection on Qatar Airways?

It depends on the fare, not the cabin. Economy Convenience and Comfort, plus Business Comfort and Elite, include advance standard seat selection. Economy Lite and Classic, and Business Lite and Classic, pay for it — oneworld elites excepted. Everyone can pick a standard seat free once online check-in opens.

How do I cancel a Qatar Airways ticket and get a refund?

Use the refund option inside Manage Booking on a Qatar-issued ticket. The outcome follows your fare family: Business Elite refunds to the original payment method without penalty, while Lite, Classic and Comfort refund for a fee priced by region and currency. Refund validity is twelve months from issue.

Can I upgrade my Qatar Airways flight through Manage Booking?

Yes, by two routes. Avios upgrades appear when your booking class is eligible, and paid upgrade offers can be bid on. A successful bid is charged between 48 and 4 hours before departure, is non-refundable and non-transferable, and still earns Avios and Qpoints at your original booking class.

Why can't I see my Qatar Airways booking?

Common causes: the surname does not match the ticket exactly, the reference you have is a travel agent's own file number rather than Qatar's six-character code, or the e-ticket number was pasted with letters or punctuation — Qatar wants digits only. Ticketing can also lag behind a newly held reservation.

Can I change the passenger name on a Qatar Airways ticket?

No. Qatar Airways tickets are issued to a named passenger and are not transferable to someone else. Genuine spelling corrections that still identify the same traveller are handled by Qatar's ticketing office or your issuing agent rather than Manage Booking, and are assessed against your passport.

How late can I make changes in Manage Booking?

Qatar publishes a three-hour cut-off explicitly for award flights and Avios upgrades. On paid tickets the online change path closes before departure, and once the flight goes without you the ticket becomes a no-show, which carries its own charge under Qatar's conditions of carriage. Do not leave it late.

Can I add baggage after booking with Qatar Airways?

Yes. Extra allowance is bought in Manage Booking or the app, and on weight-concept routes Qatar sells it online up to six hours before scheduled departure. Buying online is cheaper than the airport counter rate. Pricing varies by route, so the figure is quoted at the point of purchase.

Does Qatar Airways Business Lite include lounge access?

No. Business Lite launched as an unbundled business fare that excludes lounge access, sold separately instead, and it is filed in booking class P. It also accrues 75% of miles flown against 200% on Business Elite — in the identical Qsuite seat, on the same aircraft.
